Solomon awarded GT win after Quinn exclusion

Matt Solomon claimed his maiden Australian GT Championship victory following Tony Quinn’s post race exclusion from today’s heat.

The Eggleston Motorsport driver had secured second spot behind the Aston Martin of Quinn on corrected time, but the latter was excluded from the race for causing a multiple car crash on the opening lap.

Quinn made contact with Roger Lago’s Lamborghini on the exit of Turn 2 which sparked a chain reaction further down the pack.

John Magro (Lamborghini), Craig Baird (Mercedes), Dean Canto (Lamborghini), Glen Wood (Lamborghini) and Tony D’Alberto (Ferrari) were all eliminated from the race on the spot.

The race ended under Safety Car with just one full racing lap completed.

Vicious Rumour Racing’s Andrea Montermini took the chequered flag in the new Ferrari 488 GT3 but was demoted to 14th spot once his compulsory pit stop time was added.

Tickets for the 2026 NTI Townsville 500 are on sale now. Secure your spot today.

As a result of Quinn’s exclusion, Jamec Pem Racing’s Steven McLaughlan inherited second with Klark Quinn’s McLaren in third.

Greg Taylor (Audi), George Miedecke (Aston Martin), Nathan Morcom (McLaren), Marcus Marshall (Audi), John Martin (Porsche), Andrew MacPherson (Porsche) and Nathan Antunes (McLaren) completed the top 10.

The Australian GT Championship returns to action on Sunday for Race 4, which is scheduled to begin at 1135 local time.
