Last year, Andrew Corbet of Corbet’s Group revealed plans for a privately funded, multi-purpose facility that would include a speedway and motocross track as well as driving training facilities.
The proposed site is on Beachmere Rd, north of Brisbane and a short drive from Caboolture.
Kostecki said South-East Queensland desperately needs Morton Motorsport Park to come to fruition.
Speaking on his latest Lucky Dogs Podcast episode, Kostecki asked listeners to support the proposal, which is open for public submissions HERE via the Queensland Government website.
“It’s probably our last-ever chance to get a speedway in South-East Queensland, which is really sad. It would be cool if everyone could go,” Kostecki said.
“It’s pretty important for motorsport in Queensland because obviously Archerfield got taken [away] and Queensland has been home to a lot of speedway stars.
“The speedway community is awesome and has produced many great drivers.”
The loss of Archerfield Speedway left Brisbane without a venue capable of hosting Sprintcar racing and its associated classes.
Toowoomba Speedway is the nearest noteworthy track to the state’s capital.
However, the proposed Morton facility would go some way to filling the void left by Archerfield.
Motocross has also been dealt several blows in recent years. Most recently, Mick Doohan’s Banyo Raceway was shut down, following the likes of Coolum Pines and North Tivoli Motoland.
Should Moreton Motorsport Park get the go-ahead, plans are for the speedway to host 13 “minor” events annually that would attract an estimated 1000 spectators per meeting.
It’s expected three “major” events would also take place, hosting 4000 spectators.
Motocross would also get 26 minor events and three major events with 100 and 1000 spectators per event respectively.
It’s thought the precinct could generate $32 million in annual revenue, with benefits to the local community businesses.
Public consultation is open until June 11.
