Former V8 Supercars driver Steven Ellery is one of 12 members of Team Australia who have converged on the Rotax MAX Grand Finals in Valencia, Spain this week.
Ellery, who has stood on the Bathurst 1000 podium three times, will take part in the DD2 Masters category for drivers over the age of 32.
The 40-year-old Queenslander, who had 120 V8 Supercars race starts to his credit, continues to race regularly in karting competition, alongside his sons Tristan and Dalton – both of whom are also front-runners on the Queensland and National scenes.
Ellery made way for Jamie Whincup at the Triple Eight team at the end of the 2005 season.
To make the World Finals, Ellery had to qualify through the Rotax Pro Tour Series throughout Australia.
Joining him in Spain in the DD2 Masters category is New South Welshmen Adam Hunter and Hamish Leighton.
Competitors have collected their identical chassis, engine and tyre combinations from a raffle held by the Rotax organisation, with qualifying set to take place tonight Australian time.
Recently announced Prodrive Racing Australia Academy driver, Bryce Fullwood is joined in the Junior Max Australian team by Castrol EDGE Stars of Karting star Jayden Ojeda and Gold Coaster, Zane Goddard.
Veteran Victorian Jason Pringle will make his sixth World Finals appearance this weekend in the two-speed gearbox DD2 category, where he’s joined by Troy Woolston, who’s also been to a number of World Finals in the past and youngster, Jordan Boys.
In Senior Max, 2014 Australian Rotax Light Champion, Brad Jenner is joined by Ryan Kennedy and Andrew Carey.
It is one of the biggest contingents Australian Rotax importer, IKD, has taken to the World Finals since its inception at the turn of the millennium.
Qualifying takes place tonight at 11:55pm (AEDST), with heats from 9pm Thursday and 9:55pm Friday.
Pre-finals take place from 7:45pm Saturday evening Australian time with the finals beginning at 11:40pm.
