Supercars stewards have issued a points penalty to Todd Kelly following an incident involving Garth Tander during Race 21 at the Vodafone Gold Coast 600.
The Nissan Motorsport driver hit the rear of Tander’s Garry Rogers Motorsport Holden after locking a brake while disputing 11th position on Lap 45.
The contact sent both cars spinning with Tander lucky to avoid making contact with the concrete wall at the Turn 1-2-3 chicane.
Kelly wasn’t so lucky as he suffered front end damage before rear ending the wall which put him out of the race.
Following a review of the incident, Stewards have docked 25 championship points from Kelly’s tally.
“I was right behind Tander into turn 1 and I had a wobble through the kink,” said Kelly.

“I ended up with two wheels on the wet line and they instantly locked.
“I couldn’t stop the car. So it was totally my fault. It’s a shame we ended the day like that.
“The car was good enough to drive around where we were. So it was a shame to not finish there.
“The damage to the car isn’t too bad. There was too much damage to finish the race, but there’s nothing there to worry us for tomorrow.”
Tander says Kelly has since apologised following the clash.
“He came and saw me. I knew what happened,” Tander told Speedcafe.com.
“He hit me that hard that I realised he was basically out of control, and he said that.
“It was easy to do, you just get out of the two tyre tracks going down there and you’re a passenger.
“At the time you think, ‘Oh God, the world’s ending,’ but luckily we didn’t go in the wall, spun around, actually didn’t damage the car that much, we just pressed on, but it was a big hit, really big hit.
“Todd did the right thing, came down, and we’ll forget about it now.”
