After months of delays, the team has announced the completion of a majority sale to Altor Capital – the asset management arm of Prime Financial Group.

Prime was engaged to sell the business late last year but by May had emerged as the likely buyer. Altor is already an investor in Supercars’ owner RACE.

The Australian Financial Review reports the Tickford deal to be worth “about $16 million”. As expected, Rod Nash will retain an equity stake while former co-owner Sven Burchartz departs.

Nash, who has been a Tickford co-owner since teaming with Rusty French to buy the business from Prodrive in 2012, continues under the new title of director of motorsport.

Simon Brookhouse, a former investment banker and experienced sports administrator who was brought on in 2024 amid plans to seek fresh investment, will remain as CEO.

“We are thrilled with the decision by Altor Capital to make this investment in Tickford Racing, which continues a proud tradition in the Supercars Championship,” said Brookhouse.

“The investment is a great validation of what Rod and the entire Tickford team have built over the decades and provides us with the right partner to unlock the exciting future of the Tickford Racing team.”

Tickford marks Altor’s fourth sports and entertainment investment.

It follows an acquisition earlier this year of a controlling stake in NBL franchise, the Tasmania JackJumpers – where Brookhouse worked as CEO before joining Tickford.

Altor’s Chief Investment Officer, Ben Harrison, spruiked the Tickford deal.

“This acquisition represents a rare chance to own an investment in a premier professional motorsport platform with an established track record, best-in-class engineering, a passionate and engaged fan base, and strong commercial momentum,” he said.

“We are excited to be partnering with Rod, Simon and the Tickford Racing team as it embarks on its next leg of growth.”

Tickford runs two full-time cars in the Supercars Championship, four Super2 Series entries and an engineering offshoot that it has been working to expand into non-motorsport applications.

The team is also running a wildcard entry at the Adelaide Grand Final for NASCAR star Austin Cindric, who is currently undertaking a two-day test at The Bend.
