The car is presented in VP trim as raced by Peter Brock in the 1994 Australian Touring Car Championship, complete with his famous #05 number.

That season marked Brock’s return to the Holden factory fold, seven years after the polariser bust-up that led to the downfall of his Holden Dealer Team.

Brock scored the Tom Walkinshaw Racing-owned HRT’s first ATCC race and round victories aboard this car at Eastern Creek in 1994.

Dubbed HRT 028, it had been built as a VN model and finished second in its race debut at the 1991 Bathurst 1000, shared by Allan Grice and Win Percy.

It was later reborn as a VP for Tomas Mezera to drive in the second half of 1993, crashing out at Bathurst after the throttle stuck with Percy at the wheel.

Brock campaigned it in 1994 until receiving a new car for the endurance races, meaning HRT 028 became the #015 entry shared by Brad Jones and debutant Craig Lowndes.

Take the short survey.

They scored a runner-up finish in a thrilling Bathurst 1000 that launched Lowndes’ career.

HRT upgraded the car to VR specifications and it raced on in 1995, initially with Mezera before being sold off into privateer and eventually collector hands.

Current owner Gavin Strongman snapped up the car in 2019 and the following year began the restoration, which he documented on a public Facebook page.

The car had been stripped and sandblasted before sitting untouched for almost a decade prior to Strongman’s ownership.

He sourced an original HRT engine and rear-end for the car, among other period components, revealing the finished product at MotorEx in Melbourne in May.

The car is being sold through Young Timers Garage, promoted as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to secure an “investment-grade Australian racing car”.

YTG was recently responsible for the sale of Muscle Car Warehouse’s race car collection that included four Bathurst 1000 winners.
