Alex Tagliani will join AJ Foyt to contest the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 and the Angie’s List Grand Prix road course event in May.
The 42-year-old will pilot a third Dallara-Honda entry from the operation backed by Alfe Heat Treating, joining the team’s regular drivers Takuma Sato and Jack Hawksworth.
Tagliani has run the previous two Indy 500’s as an extra entry for AJ Foyt and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, while his appearance at the Angie’s List Grand Prix (May 14) will be his first street or road course start since 2013.
The car will run the #35 in honour of AJ Foyt’s record 35 straight starts in the Indianapolis 500—from 1958 through 1992.
It will also feature a black livery taking inspiration from No. 14 Copenhagen cars that Foyt drove in the latter part of his legendary career
The 2011 Indy 500 pole winner is eager anticipating the opportunity to race in the milestone Indy 500 race on May 29.
“I feel very privileged and honoured to be driving the Alfe Heat Treating Honda,” said Tagliani,
“I’m very excited to be driving for the AJ Foyt Racing organisation again.
“To be driving for them at the Speedway during the month of May is very special. The 100th Running of the Indy 500 will make it even more unique.”
“I’m looking forward to driving the Indy road course in an Indycar. I’ve heard a lot of amazing things on the performance of the car.
“It will be difficult because I haven’t driven an Indy car on a road course in several years.
“Jumping in the car on a road course in something that is very new will be tough, but the positive is that I will be in the car for the month of May.”
Tagliani’s return will coincide with the Australian Pirtek Team Murray entry, which will see Matthew Brabham also contest the Angie’s List Grand Prix prior to a tilt at the Indy 500.
It is expected that several extra entries will be confirmed for IndyCar’s showpiece event.
