Tekno commits to McLaren Australian GT entry

Tekno Autosports will run three McLaren 650s GT3s in the Australian GT Championship

Tekno Autosports will continue its association with McLaren beyond the Bathurst 12 Hour by running three cars in the sprint rounds of the Australian GT Championship.

The Gold Coast squad has linked with the British manufacturer to run its two-car factory effort in this weekend’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

Jonathon Webb has confirmed to Speedcafe.com that the Australian GT program will be run alongside its single-car effort in the V8 Supercars Championship.

One of the 650S GT3s the team is running at the Bathurst 12 Hour will remain in Australia with two more cars set to arrive in the country before the opening round at the Clipsal 500.

The team is yet to confirm the driver line-up for its Australian GT entries.

“We will be running three McLarens in Australian GT for the year,” Webb told Speedcafe.com.

Drive all day with open pit lane access at Queensland Raceway: July 1st and 7th. Custom race cars only, low numbers, medical support, garages, and complete on-site facilities.

“There are a few more details to work out but it has all come together really well.

“It is exciting. It started 12 months ago when we started talking about it and now it has fallen into place.

“I thought if we could get one car going then that would be good but all of a sudden the phone started ringing and it turned into three and almost four.

“We have got three locked away. This is just for the sprint championship at the moment but we are hoping to do the endurance series with one of the cars.

“We are just working through it bit by bit to make sure we have the budget and understand the cars so we don’t over commit ourselves.”

Webb expects to undergo a test with the new McLaren machinery before the Clipsal 500 from March 3-6.
