The grid for the 24 Hours of Spa has received a major shake-up after the six Mercedes AMG GT3s that dominated Superpole were ruled illegal.
The #85 HTP, #88 AKKA ASP, #00 Black Falcon, #84 HTP, #56 Black Falcon and #86 HTP Mercedes entries had locked out the top six places in Superpole.
They have now all had their Superpole lap times deleted after their ignition timing was deemed to not comply with the homologation documents.
Stewards confirmed that each car must also serve a five-minute stop-go penalty during the race for “non-sporting behaviour – presenting a car with a technical non-conformity of which the competitor should have been aware”.
The dramatic turn of events sees the #28 WRT Audi, which was qualified by Laurens Vanthoor and will be started by Rene Rast, elevated to pole position.
With the #74 Audi that qualified eighth disqualified from Superpole due to a breach of the track limits, the #16 GRT Grasser Lamborghini will share the front-row.
