Triple Eight is on track at Queensland Raceway today, undertaking a tyre test for V8 Supercars and its control supplier Dunlop.
Six-time champion Jamie Whincup is behind the wheel for the single car test, which is being conducted with one of the team’s spare chassis in a plain blue livery.
According to V8 Supercars, four variations of soft and two versions of the hard tyre are being assessed by Whincup ahead of possible changes for 2017.
The category has expressed a desire to give the soft option more initial grip and a higher degradation rate in order to improve the racing.
Whincup and Triple Eight were also utilised for V8 Supercars’ tyre test last year, where a ‘super soft’ compound was trialled.
The category eventually elected against introducing the higher degradation rubber for this season, instead opting to utilise its existing soft compound across more events.
Triple Eight will also take to Queensland Raceway next week for its second full test day of the season ahead of the CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown on June 17-19.
