Being a club member of a team now has extra benefits, with V8 Supercars Australia passing an initiative for teams to offer discounted race tickets for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island.
Team membership holders (as well as three guests) will have access to an exclusive discount for various tickets to the Phillip Island event (September 10-12).
V8 teams with team membership packages include TeamVodafone, Kelly Racing (Kelly Gang), Holden Racing Team, Ford Performance Racing (Fuelled), Dick Johnson Racing (DJR Team Mates), Stone Brothers Racing (SBR Supporters Club) and Garry Rogers Motorsport (V8 RaceMate).
Depending on the success of the Phillip Island trial, this offer may be extended into 2011.
The initiative has been instigated by V8 Supercars’ new commercial committee, formed in June. The discounted ticket rates are designed to assist the teams and the sport, similar to the stye that the AFL and NRL clubs have conducted their membership schemes.
V8 Supercars media manager Cole Hitchcock told Speedcafe.com.au that the trial is to gauge interest amongst loyal V8 fans.
“The objective is for Phillip Island to test the waters in terms of take up and see if it is of interest to members of teams,” he said.
“If we deem it to have been a success, we’ll look at extending onto 2011. We’re not sure of what format it could grow into – this is more of a testing ground.
“It’s a great incentive and a good reward for the large core of regular V8 fans. Hopefully they get some advantages out of it.”
