Shane van Gisbergen has been handed a fine for his part in an altercation with David Reynolds during Practice 3 at the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint.
Stewards investigated an incident between the pair which saw van Gisbergen appear to not accelerate out of Turn 2, forcing Reynolds to brake to avoid contact.
A hearing was held prior to qualifying, with officials electing to hand van Gisbergen a $500 fine, with another $500 suspended.
“Following a request by Erebus Motorsport, the (Deputy Race Director) conducted a post Session investigation into an Incident involving Car #9, David Reynolds, and Car #97, Shane van Gisbergen, when Car #97 slowed and impeded Car #9 which was on a fast lap,” read the steward's decision.
“The Driver of Car #97 admitted to a breach of Schedule B2 Article 2.1.1 – Careless Driving – and the Stewards imposed a fine of $1,000 of which $500 is suspended until 31 December 2018.”
“For the first time ever someone's got a fine for getting in the way in practice,” van Gisbergen told Fox News.
“I don't know, there was some crazy stuff yesterday and we just get on with it. It's practice, no one normally cares but old love up the road has got issues still I guess.”
Ironically, van Gisbergen went on to win $1000 after claiming the Armor All Pole Position for Race 7, which starts at 1645 local time/AEST.
