Volante Rosso Motorsport secures two Bathurst 12 Hour entries

Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia front runners, Volante Rosso Motorsport has entered its pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s for February 16-18’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, with an entry each in the Pro-AM and Silver/Bronze classes.

The team has yet to confirm its driver roster and is fielding exciting discussions with both local and international talent to fill the two cars.

“With our entries confirmed, I met with (fellow team owner) Chris Papadopoulos last week to really begin zoning in on our driving team as the program takes shape,” explained Volante Rosso Motorsport’s Motorsport Director, Josh Hunt.

“There are many Australian and international drivers that would be suitable for Volante Rosso Motorsport’s 12 Hour team across the entries in both classes.”

2023 has been a breakout year for the team with results including multiple pole positions, a race win and regular podiums for Jayden Ojeda and Ross Poulakis in Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia.

Performances from the team and Ojeda have resulted in the 24-year-old Western Sydney driver being selected for the Mercedes Young Driver Test at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia this weekend.

The team started the year with second in class at the Bathurst 12 Hour with Poulakis, Hunt and experienced international racers, Kevin Tse and Jonathan Hui.

There is one round of the 2023 GT World Challenge Australia Championship remaining at the Vailo Adelaide 500 in a few weeks time.

Away from GT World Challenge Australia, Volante Rosso dominated Radical Cup Australia with 16-year-old Alex Gardner behind the wheel winning the outright championship; and team stalwart Peter Clare winning both Masters and Challenge Cups.

“We’ve had a tremendous year in 2023 GT including a podium at the Bathurst 12 Hour and race wins in Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia – along with the Radical Cup Australia – taking out that Championship, so it has been a year of great progression for our team,” said Hunt.

“Our engineering team has been able to get a really great handle on the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in 2023, and the Pirelli DHF Tyre compound,” added Papadopoulos. “Our crew at Volante Rosso Motorsport have left no stones unturned to extract more from the cars and how we can unlock the maximum performance from them, and consistently.

“Our commitment to 2024 starts with being one of the early entries into the Bathurst 12 Hour as the event approaches its 100 day countdown.”

The driver line-up for Volante Rosso Motorsport’s 12 Hour campaign will be announced closer to the event.

About Volante Rosso Motorsport:

Volante Rosso Motorsport was established by former Formula 1 engineer – Chris Papadopoulos and international racer, Josh Hunt. Hunt has a storied international career in karting, GT and open wheel racing, being the only Australian driver to have raced karts on every continent (barring Antarctica). Volante Rosso Motorsport won the Radical Cup Australia Championship in 2023 with 16-year-old rookie, Alex Gardner.
