David Wall emerged as the driver to beat after topping both practice sessions as Porsche Carrera Cup Australia kicked off its maiden overseas round at the Sepang International Circuit.
The series leader posted the fastest lap of the day in the second 45 minute outing at the Malaysian Formula 1 and MotoGP venue, as he clocked a 2:08.711s effort.
Wall was the only driver to lap under the 2:09s bracket to eclipse Andre Heimgartner by 0.391s, while Porsche test and development driver Lars Kern was third.
The effort arrived after finishing on top in Practice 1 earlier in the day.
This weekend sees Carrera Cup Australia host two championship races before undertaking a pair combined heats with its Asian Carrera Cup counterparts.
Such was Wall’s pace, he was comfortably quicker than the top Asian Carrera Cup competitor Chris van der Drift from New Zealand.

“It is a little bit hard to judge from the first session as our second tyres were not great,” Wall told Speedcafe.com.
“We ran two sets that were equal kilometres and had a bit of taste on that before running a set of tyres in the next session.
“So far so good, the car is really good and I’m enjoying being back in Sepang for the first time in seven years.”
Nick McBride was fourth quickest ahead of Cameron McConville and Dylan O’Keeffe, with the top six within a second of the benchmark set by Wall.
The top 10 was completed by McElrea Racing’s Jaxon Evans, Alex Davison, Michael Almond and James Abela.
Tim Miles claimed the honours in the TAG Heuer Carrera Challenge by less than tenth over Stephen Grove.
The field will returns tomorrow for a 30 minute qualifying session before a 13 lap race.
