Jamie Whincup has embarrassed his V8 Supercars rivals in the Qualifying B session at Phillip Island today.
The TeamVodafone driver completed just one fast lap during the 20 minutes, with his 1:32.69s effort enough to withstand all challenges for the remainder of the session.
SP Tools driver Shane van Gisbergen will start from second place, having improved to within 0.26s of Whincup on his final run.
Mark Skaife will line-up third in the second of the TeamVodafone entries, having joined van Gisbergen in improving his time but not position in the closing stages.
Nick Percat continued to impress in the #2 Holden Racing Team Commodore and will share the second row with Skaife, while Paul Dumbrell (The Bottle-O Racing) rounded out the top five.
Warren Luff (Gulf Western Oils Racing) was also a standout, jumping to position five with five minutes remaining before ending the session eighth.
While Will Davison took pole for Qualifying Race 1 in the Driver A session, neither of Ford Performance Racing’s drivers could make the top 10 in the Driver B session.
Luke Youlden will start Qualifying Race 2 from position 11, while Mark Winterbottom could manage only 13th after suffering fuel pressure problems.
