Will Power has won his seventh pole of the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season with a solid comeback at the Mid-Ohio road course today.
Power crashed his primary Verizon IndyCar in practice earlier in the day, forcing his Team Penske crew to prepare his back-up car for qualifying.
The Australian repaid their hard work with yet another pole position as he aims to wrap of the Mario Andretti Trophy for the street/road course circuits this weekend as well as keep his overall points lead.
“It was a bad mistake on my behalf this morning,” said Power.
“The guys had to put together the spare car in a two-hour space. I can’t thank them enough.”
“It was a gradual process during my (qualifying) run, but the laps weren’t perfect. My last two laps were similar, but not mistake free. I am very happy for the Verizon team and I can’t thank the crew enough.
“I made it hard for them after my practice and they had to do a lot of work. I hope we can win this one this weekend. We had a disappointing result in Edmonton, but we are coming back here.“
This year’s Indy 500 winner and Armor All Gold Coast 600 driver Dario Franchitti qualified in second place, with Takuma Sato in third for KV Racing Technology.
New Zealand’s Scott Dixon was fifth, Helio Castroneves sixth and Australian Ryan Briscoe was seventh.
