Aaren Russell’s tough initiation into full-time V8 Supercars Championship duties has continued with the Erebus driver receiving a 25 point penalty for careless driving in Race 1.
Russell tangled with Lee Holdsworth at Turn 6 on the opening lap, spinning the Team 18 Holden in the process.
The 24-year-old Russell had earlier been handed a two-place grid penalty on Friday for impeding Jamie Whincup during qualifying.
Starting off the back on both occasions, Russell went on to finish 25th and 22nd in the two races.
The Russell/Holdsworth tangle was the only incident to attract a post-race penalty following a relatively clean two 125km Saturday heats.
Investigating Officer Jason Bargwanna also looked into contact between Nissan’s Rick Kelly and DJR Team Penske’s Fabian Coulthard in Race 2, but declared that no breach of rules had occurred.
Stewards meanwhile handed down a 25 point penalty to Kurt Kostecki in yesterday’s Dunlop Series race following contact with Josh Kean.
Kean’s Brad Jones Racing entry was spun into the wall at the exit of Turn 9 due to the hit from the Triple Eight-built Holden.
