Acura has officially revealed its Daytona Prototype that Team Penske will campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The ARX-05 prototype, produced by the Honda affiliated brand, is based on the Oreca 07 LMP2 chassis which will lead the American Penske powerhouse’s return to top flight sportscar competition.
Powered by a 3.5 litre turbocharged engine, the Acura is set to compete against prototypes from Cadillac, Nissan and Mazda.
The car will makes its debut at the Daytona 24 Hours in January next year.
“Right from the start, Acura has raced – and done so successfully,” said Acura Motorsports president Art St. Cyr.
“We’ve won with the Acura Integra Type R, the RSX, the first-generation NSX and with the Le Mans prototypes. Most recently, we’ve won with the new Acura NSX GT3.
“The ARX-05 is our fifth-generation prototype, and we expect great things from our partnership with Team Penske.”
Meanwhile, IndyCar star Helio Castoneves has been strongly linked to the project.
