Andrew Jones is guaranteed V8 Supercars laps at the Sydney Telstra 500 next weekend.
Jones will again act as the injured Jason Bright’s substitute for the #8 Team BOC Commodore VE after replacing him at Sandown last weekend.
Bright, the car’s regular driver, continues to recover from a fractured rib that flared up at the Symmons Plains V8 event.
If Bright is capable of racing around the concrete-lined Sydney track, Jones will drive in the final round of the Development Series – adding to the Townsville and Queensland Raceway events he raced in.
If Jones is called up to the Main Series again, the team will find a driver to steer BJR Fujitsu V8 Series entry.
Jones drove the #8 Team BOC Commodore VE at Sandown last weekend, finishing 19th (Saturday) and 26th (Sunday). During Sunday’s 200km race, Jones completed the event without a working cool suit.
Team owner Kim Jones says that the team has covered off all its bases for possible scenarios.
“The intention is that Brighty will drive the main car and Andrew will drive the Fujitsu Series car,” Jones told Speedcafe.com.
“If there is some issue with Bright, then Andrew will drive that and we’ll sort someone else to drive the Fujitsu Series car.
“But the Fujitsu Series car will definitely run.”
Jones and Bright have just spent the past three days together in West Australia, visiting three of its team’s WA-based partners Westrac, Earthex and NRW.
Jones is quietly confident that Bright will be fit for Homebush, even though he is still experiencing pain.
“He is going OK,” Jones said.
“He is having a fair bit of treatment and he seems a bit better than he has been.
“He is quite confident that if he can sort a muscle problem around the area then he’ll be good to go. We’ll just keep accessing in the lead up to the weekend.”
The Sydney Telstra 500 will be held on December 2-4.
