Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series
New Zealand GT ace Jono Lester scored a podium finish in the penultimate round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series at Japan’s Fuji Speedway.
The Direction Racing driver tamed torrential rain to progress from fifth to second behind championship leaders Afiq Yazid and Toshiyukmi Ochiai in Race 2.
The result came after a mechanical issue prevented Lester for taking a victory in the opening race, which was also won by Yazid and Ochiai.
Lester converted his fourth pole position of the season to the lead in the opening race only for a ABS issue to strike mid-way through the heat.
The braking problem saw Lester drop back before co-driver Yudai Uchida brought the car home in fifth, ahead of the all-Australian entrant of Jake Parsons and Aidan Wright.
Parsons had held third before handing over to Wright, who drove to the finish.
The pair finished fifth in the second heat following a slick drive from Parsons in the closing stages.
The field will head to Spain’s Valencia Circuit for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final from December 1-2.
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
Martin Ragginger claimed victory in the ninth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, which supported the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Austrian led every lap of the contest on his way to the chequered flag at the Marina Bay street circuit.
However, Ragginger was unable to relax throughout as he came under pressure from Nico Menzel and championship leader Maxime Jousse.
The Team Porsche Holding’s driver held firm to take the victory, while Australian Mitchell Gilbert finished fourth.
“I managed to do a good start, but Nico was there in the first lap so I had to defend quite a lot,” said Ragginger.
“Definitely there was no space for one mistake, I really had to drive on the limit carefully and to not lock-up or make a mistake.
“In the end it was a race that was really tough for all of us, but nobody made a real mistake.”
Yuan Bo took the honours in Class B after finishing seventh outright.
Jousse has opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the standings from Menzel ahead of the visit to Sepang from September 30/October 2.
