Australian driver Scott Andrews will make his LMP3 prototype debut in the second round of the Asian Le Mans Series at Japan’s Fuji International Speedway this weekend.

Andrews will pilot a WinEurasia Ligier LMP3 alongside countryman Aidan Read and experienced Hong Kong driver William Lok.

The move represents a new direction for the 26-year-old who has largely focussed his career around single seaters.

The LMP3 opportunity follows a Lamborghini GT3 drive in the Bathurst 12 Hour in February and a stint in the American Endurance Series.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to get my first taste of racing in Asia and especially to drive an LMP3 car,” said Andrews.

“Eurasia Motorsport have a rich pedigree in racing and I look forward to working with them and gaining as much knowledge as I can.

“I hope to make an impact on the Asian market. I have been looking at Asia for a while now and it could be a good opportunity for me. I believe I will be in very good hands with this team.”

Eurasia Motorsport boss Mark Goddard is confident Andrews will quickly adapt to the LMP3 car.

“We are excited to have another promising young Australian driver in the car for the Fuji Asian Le Mans round,” said Goddard.

“LMP3 is designed as the first step on the ladder to Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship and it gives Scott the opportunity to demonstrate what he can do in an LMP car plus of course learn and gain valuable experience.

“We know Aidan will be competitive, he has already proven his speed in the Ligier this year and I am sure Scott will also quickly get up to speed.

“This gives us two very competitive drivers alongside William Lok and we have to be aiming for a podium.”
