A tornado has caused widespread devastation in northern Texas, with the county sheriff reporting multiple fatalities.
The tornado struck in a region about 273km north of where the V8 Supercars are staging its historic Championship round in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas track this weekend.
The twister slammed into the north lakefront town of Granbury in Hood county (60km from Fort Worth) with early estimates of up to six people losing their lives.
It was part of a system of super storms that spawned several twisters in the north Texas area.
The devastating weather systems were well away from where the stars of the V8 Supercar series continued a heavy PR schedule in the build up to the weekend’s Austin 400 today.
