Two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner Rod Salmon has escaped a huge crash during the first GT Asia Series race of the weekend at China's Shanghai International Circuit.
Driving an FFF Racing McLaren 650S, the Australian was at the wheel of the car when it speared into the inside barriers on the start/finish straight after slight contact with a GTM Class Ferrari.
The McLaren suffered heavy front-end damage before it came to a halt on the circuit, where Salmon emerged unhurt.
The experienced GT racer is understood to have been distracted by electrical issues with the McLaren, scrolling through pages on the car's electronic dash and travelling below racing speed when he moved into the path of the Ferrari.
The ferocity of the impact with the fence forced a delay to the meeting to allow circuit staff to complete a lengthy fix to the barriers.
As a result, the scheduled qualifying session for the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which is headlining the Shanghai event, has been moved to Sunday morning.
