Authorities investigating Michael Schumacher’s ski crash in France have obtained a camera that was fixed to the helmet of the F1 ace.
The family are reported to have handed it to investigators late yesterday however it remains unclear whether the camera had been operating at the time of his fall at the ski resort of Meribel or whether it suffered damage.
Schumacher’s 14-year-old son Mick, who was with his father on the ski slopes, has also been interviewed by police.
If any video evidence is obtained it would become crucial in the investigation following reports that surfaced during the week from Schumacher’s manager, Sabine Kehm, who has said he was not skiing at high speed at the time of the accident.
News of the helmet camera come as Schumacher spent a sixth night in the Grenoble hospital where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
Schumacher is in an induced coma following the fall which reportedly cracked his helmet.
Doctors last spoke publicly on Tuesday after Schumacher’s second operation to relieve pressure on his brain saying there was a slight improvement in his condition but declared that he was still ‘not out of danger’.
Several hundred Ferrari fans staged a tribute to the world’s most successful grand prix driver outside the hospital, co-inciding with his 45th birthday yesterday, with his family led by wife Corinna moved to tears at the overwhelming support and sympathy for her husband.
