David Brabham has his sights firmly set on adding a V8 Supercars Championship race victory to his impressive CV at this year’s Armor All Gold Coast 600.
The 46-year-old ‘Australian international’ will co-drive Tim Slade’s Lucky 7 Falcon in the event.
Brabham is no stranger to Stone Brothers Racing Fords having driven the team’s IRWIN entry at the 2010 Phillip Island, Bathurst and Gold Coast races, before again completing the Phillip Island/Bathurst double with the team last year.
Brabham’s racing career so far has included an outright win in the Le Mans 24 Hour (2009), two Le Mans class victories (2007 and 2008), two American Le Mans Series championships (2009 and 2010), a Bathurst 1000 victory (1997) and 24 Formula 1 Grand Prix starts (1990-1994).
With a best V8 Supercars result of fifth, achieved on the Gold Coast in 2010, Brabham says winning alongside Slade this October would be a major feather in his cap.
“I am really looking forward the returning to SBR, I have driven for them at Bathurst, Phillip Island and the GC600, so I know the team well,” said Brabham of his signing.
“Last time I raced a V8 Supercar was last year at Bathurst and my pace was the same as my team-mate Alex Davison, so I know it won’t take long to get up to speed.
“Tim Slade is in great form and the team are consistent top 10 competitors, (so) the goal for the event will be to win. I have never won a V8 Supercars race so it would be a great addition to my CV.”
Slade, meanwhile, says Brabham’s experience with the team makes him the ideal co-driver.
“He has driven with Stone Brothers in the past and is familiar with the car and the team so I don’t think I could pick anyone better from the list of people doing the event,” said Slade.
“He is someone that I can learn a few things from so I am really happy to have the opportunity to drive with him this year.”
Brabham currently competes full-time in both the World Endurance Championship, where he drives a JRM HPD, and the Blancpain Endurance Series, where he drives a United Autosport McLaren. Brabham currently sits equal 7th and equal 12th in the points standings for the two categories respectively.
