Britek REC set to remain at BJR in 2011

Britek REC set to remain at BJR in 2011

Jason Bright is “99 percent certain” that his V8 Supercars Racing Entitlements Contract will stay at Brad Jones Racing next year.

Bright took his sole-remaining Britek Motorsport REC to the Albury-based team this season, and to coincide with the deal, Bright himself signed with BJR to race the #14 Trading Post Commodore VE.

Bright sold his other REC to Steven Webb – DJR driver Jonathon Webb’s father.

The extra REC allowed BJR to expand to three cars, with Karl Reindler (Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing) competing under the Britek entry, joining Jason Richards (Team BOC) and Bright.

This year is the first time since 2007 that Bright hasn’t competed in the V8 Supercars Championship Series under his own REC.

Bright, currently 17th in the championship, only has a one-year deal in place for the REC to be run by BJR. He told Speedcafe.com.au that he is happy with the environment at BJR and that it will only be a formality to see the REC remain with the team he drives for.

“I’m 99 percent certain it will stay with BJR,” he said.

“It’s a new thing for BJR to run three main game cars – new team members, rookie driver, but as time goes on, that will settle down.

“Ideally, I want to continue to run it as part of this Brad Jones Racing. It makes more sense to run the REC where I am.

“I don’t want to get back in a situation where it is separate to the team that I’m at. And having three cars is starting to work better and better all the time.”

Bright says that he is not concerned with rookie Reindler’s current form, despite the lack of results.

“I’m happy with the way it’s running. I think that it was always going to be a tough start to the year because we put together a bunch of new guys with a rookie driver, so it was always going to be a tough start to the season,” he said.

“Unfortunately, Karl had a few problems along the way with reliability, but as the year goes on, he’ll get more and more competitive as the car gets better.

“I would say it hasn’t been a very easy start to the year him.”

With just over half of the races run in this year’s V8 title, Bright says that the team’s race pace is exceptional but they need to be faster in qualifying.

“I’m happy with some of the progress we’ve made,” he said.

“I think our race pace is very good and I’ve been with teams where it has taken longer than that to get it to where we are now.

“From now on, you’ll see all three cars with the same set-up that I’ve been running for the last couple of rounds. We should be able to make progress a lot faster from this point onwards.

“We’ve got good race pace and tyre life, but we’re struggling with our one lap speed at the moment.”
