Matt Chahda has been blocked from being given special treatment to obtain a Superlicence after provisionally taking the second seat at Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport.

Chahda attended the official Supercars season launch in LDM kit and was announced on stage as driver for the Melbourne squad.

However as the Adelaide ceremony was taking place, CAMS released a bombshell that it had refused dispensation to the 23-year-old.

In the release CAMS said it had informed LDM of their decision yesterday.

“In considering whether to grant the dispensation, CAMS is required to satisfy itself that there are exceptional circumstances to support a decision to waive the minimum requirements,” the release stated.

“CAMS has determined that there are no exceptional circumstances to support a decision to waive the minimum requirements.

“It is the opinion of CAMS that Matt Chahda has not demonstrated the necessary driving skill and competency to support the dispensation requested.

“CAMS values the safety of competitors, officials and fans above all other considerations.”

The decision is in contrast to yesterday when LDM confirmed the signing of 16-year-old Alex Rullo to the squad with the teenager gaining special dispensation from CAMS despite not qualifying for a Superlicence under age and points requirements.

Supercars chief executive James Warburton told Speedcafe.com that his category has its hands tied and cannot over-ride the decision to block Chahda’s Superlicence.
