James Courtney has been declared fit to compete at the Winton SuperSprint today after contracting a virus that ruled him out of Friday practice.
Mobil 1 Boost Mobile Racing evaluated Courtney this morning before confirming that 2010 champion will return to the wheel of the #25 Commodore in this morning’s practice session scheduled for 1030 AEST.
Pirtek Enduro Cup driver Jack Perkins stood in for the 37-year-old yesterday and was placed on standby in case Courtney was unable to race today.
He will remain at the circuit throughout the weekend if Courtney’s condition takes a turn for the worse.
“We sent him (James) home yesterday so he could recover and he also had a quick trip to hospital,” Mobil 1 Boost Mobile Racing general manager Mathew Nilsson told Speedcafe.com.
“He is feeling a lot better and looking a lot better, so we will put him in the car for practice. He is pretty confident that he is feeling good.
“Jack (Perkins) will hang around just as a precaution but the plan is to commit to JC for the weekend.”
