Matt Crafton has taken out the Eldora Dirt Derby but there was disappointment for Australian Max Johnston when his night came to an early end.
Johnston (#02 Young’s Motorsport Chevrolet) made a strong start from 22nd on the grid and had been running in and out of the top 10 before settling in 15th at the end of the 40-lap first stage.
However, the Sydneysider spun early Stage 2 at Turn 4 and was collected by Korbin Forrister and Ben Rhodes.
The crash took all three drivers out of the race.
Crafton, who started second and won the first stage of the race, went on to break a 27-race winless streak.
He made his mark after the penultimate Caution period of the 150-lap race, quickly moving into second at the restart before rounding up leader Stewart Friesen.
Chase Briscoe briefly put Friesen back another position to third, but those positions were reversed by the time they hit the chequered flag.
Johnston was officially classified 29th out of the 32 starters on his NASCAR debut.
Unfortunately our night ended early. Thanks for all the support @BrandtRacing @TylerYoung02 pic.twitter.com/oOSddQWjgs
