Cupra will become the latest marque to be represented on the TCR Australia grid at The Bend Motorsport Park season finale next month.
Victorian based squad Garage1 has confirmed it will enter a Leon TCR for 2018 Toyota 86 Racing Series winner Tim Brook at the South Australian circuit from November 15-17.
Brook has already experienced the two litre touring car platform this season when he drove the third Wall Racing Honda Civic Type R entry in Round 5 at Winton last month.
The arrival of the Spanish Cupra brand will ensure there will be 10 manufacturers represented on the grid, with Peugeot also joining Audi, Alfa Romeo, Honda, Hyundai, Opel, Renault, Subaru and Volkswagen.
Brook is aiming to test the car, recently purchased from Germany, before heading to The Bend.
“I’m excited, for sure. It will be great to have another crack at TCR is a different car,” said Brook.
“The test will be a good chance to get comfortable with the car. It will be an opportunity for the guys at Garage1 to do all of their systems checks, and then we can roll into the Bend and see how we go.
“I don’t really have an expectation for any results.
“The Cupra is an unknown for everyone, but like almost every TCR car, they are all evenly matched.
“The Cupra also shares many of the same components as the VW Golfs and the Audis, so if it’s close to them, then it will be competitive.
“It was great to do Winton in the Wall Racing Honda, I was a like a kid in a candy store the whole weekend. I really enjoyed it, and it was over before I knew it, but it did show me that TCR is where I want to be in the future.”
A 22-car grid is anticipated for the final event of the inaugural TCR Australia Series.
