Australian Speedway star, Darcy Ward will be on the sidelines until the end of June after the F.I.M. Jury has finally handed down its findings in his failed alcohol test.

Ward failed the test at the Latvian Speedway Grand Prix on August 17 last year and was suspended on August 28. He has been in limbo waiting for the F.I.M. to hear his case and hand down a sentence with a number of setbacks along the way.

The Statement by the F.I.M. says that Ward “committed an anti-doping rule violation under the 2014 FIM Anti-Doping Code.”

It handed down a sanction of a 10 month penalty commencing on February 25, however the provisional suspension already served by Ward from August last year would be taken into account and credited against that period.

Ward will be eligible to compete again from midnight on June 27, 2015.

He has the right to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland to appeal 21 days from the full sentence being handed down. No statement has been made by the Ward camp at this point in time.

Ward will miss the opening months of the European season. He was blocked out of the back end of the 2014 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship as a result of the suspension and has not been included as a wildcard in this year’s series.

He will be eligible to be chosen as an event wildcard at the F.I.M. Australian Speedway Grand Prix at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne on Saturday, October 24. He’ll also be eligible for the Australian Speedway World Cup squad.
