Ford driver David Reynolds put the ills of the opening race behind him by snaring pole position for the final heat at the SKYCITY Triple Crown meeting in Darwin.
Reynolds responded in the closing minutes to post a 1:08.2382s lap and upstage Craig Lowndes from the top.
It followed Reynolds’ blinding pace in the shootout a day earlier when he landed on pole for Race 17 before being taken out by his team-mate Mark Winterbottom.
Lowndes had just soared to the quickest time in a 1:08.2774s with James Courtney third in a 1:08.3185s.
Scott McLaughlin again showed blistering speed in the Fujitsu Commodore leading the way with five minutes remaining with a 1:08.4204s. McLaughlin will start from fourth ahead of Mark Winterbottom in the 35-lap race at the Hidden Valley circuit.
