Long-time McLaren reserve driver Pedro de la Rosa is expected to return to full-time driving duties, with reports he is set to be announced as a Sauber man for 2010.
Swiss newspaper Blick, which has strong connections to the Peter Sauber-led team, reported the news is likely to be confirmed soon.
Spaniard de la Rosa, who will turn 39 next month, is set to partner Japanese sensation Kamui Kobayashi’s at Sauber’s team which he recently re-aquirred from BMW, which has left the sport.
De la Rosa last raced full-time in 2002 with Jaguar and has been McLaren’s test and reserve driver for a number of years.
It was thought that Nick Heidfeld would be on top of Sauber’s list to drive alongside Kobayashi, however, NZZ am Sonntag quoted Sauber admitting that “an experienced man” with “new knowledge for the team” had been signed but at the same time, ruled out that this driver was Heidfeld.
An announcement is expected in the coming week.
