Simona de Silvestro says it will be hard to get over ‘a silly mistake’ that dashed hopes of a maiden top 10 Supercars finish at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The Nissan Motorsport driver had been running ninth when she lost control of the #78 Altima while running over the kerb at Murray’s corner as light rain fell with nine laps remaining.

De Silvestro made contract with the wall suffering terminal damage to the car she shared with David Russell.

The 29-year-old, who started 23rd on the grid, was left frustrated after letting slip what would have been her best ever finish in Supercars.

“It was good to show what we’re capable of. But I messed up and that’s pretty hard to get over,” said de Silvestro following her third Bathurst 1000 start.

“The guys worked hard all weekend and put me in that position. So it’s frustrating to end the weekend with a silly mistake.

“The team made some pretty good calls as well as some pretty hairy calls when it was wet.

“There haven’t been many races in the wet this year, but around this place it becomes even more of a handful.

“Things change so quickly out there and driving on slicks was a whole new challenge. I learned a lot and really enjoyed driving with David.”

Nissan Motorsport ended the chaotic race with two cars inside the top 10 as Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore finished sixth ahead of Todd Kelly and Jack Le Brocq.

The #15 Sengled Nissan of Rick Kelly and David Wall finished 13th spot after recovering from a wild off at The Chase while trying to pass Cameron Waters on lap 134.
