Erebus Motorsport has confirmed that it will part ways with star driver Will Davison at the end of the current season.
As reported earlier this week, Davison will leave the team in favour of the vacant ride at single-car Holden squad Tekno Autosports.
Davison joined Erebus on a four-year, multi-million dollar deal at the start of last season, but departs for Tekno in a quest to propel himself back up the V8 Supercars grid.
“Erebus Motorsport has today confirmed that driver Will Davison will finish his tenure with the team at the end of this year’s V8 Supercars Championship,” read an Erebus statement.
“In a mutual agreement between both parties, Davison will fulfil his existing contract to the team for the remainder of this year’s championship before moving on at the end of the year.
“Erebus Motorsport and Davison are committed to finishing the year strongly in the Erebus Penrite Racing #9 car at the remaining championship rounds on the Gold Coast, New Zealand, Phillip Island and Homebush.
“Erebus Motorsport and Davison have enjoyed a two-year association which netted a memorable victory in Perth this year and a podium in Townsville last year.
“Erebus Motorsport is currently exploring its options to fill the vacant seat for next year and beyond.”
Earlier today, Davison refused to be drawn on the Tekno switch, which will see him drive a Holden for the first time since 2010.
“I’m not commenting at this stage. I’m just focussing on finishing the year on a high and 2016 will be 2016.”
Erebus is understood to have targeted David Reynolds for the seat vacated by Davison.
