Lego releases Oscar Piastri helmet set for 1000th race

Released ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, the two sets have been developed with the McLaren drivers and the Lego design team, with matching real-life helmets to be worn by Piastri and Norris.

Both 793-piece display models recreate the special helmets designed for McLaren’s 1000th world championship grand prix celebrations and include Lego minifigures of the drivers for the first time.

Piastri’s set combines McLaren’s trademark papaya colours with his preferred blue tones, while Norris’ model features his signature fluorescent yellow palette and incorporates the number one he earned as world champion.

McLaren chief marketing officer Louise McEwen said the launch highlighted the strength of the team’s long-running partnership with Lego.

“Our partnership with the Lego Group is rooted in a shared commitment to creativity, innovation and inspiring the next generation of fans, and this launch captures that perfectly,” McEwen said.

“Seeing our drivers’ helmet designs reimagined through Lego creativity and then brought to life on the track at Monaco, is a powerful expression of what we can achieve together.

“It’s playful, it’s authentic, and it connects our heritage with new audiences in a way that feels both meaningful and relevant.”

The helmets worn by Piastri and Norris this weekend were created alongside the Lego sets, with the designs forming part of McLaren’s wider celebrations for its landmark race start.

Lego Group chief product and marketing officer Julia Goldin said the project had been a true collaboration between all parties involved.

“With a partnership spanning over a decade, we’re excited to bring the power of Lego creativity to the historic celebration of McLaren Racing’s 1000th race,” Goldin said.

“It’s been a true co-creation process, where our Lego design team worked closely with the drivers and McLaren Racing to develop these special 1000th race Lego helmet products.

“Now fans will be able to build the sets at home, creating a cool memento of racing history for display.”

Piastri also shared his excitement at receiving his own LEGO minifigure, which features the Australian in a casual outfit complete with shorts, thongs and a kangaroo logo on his shirt.

“Alright, everybody. I have got my own Lego figurine and it’s very me,” Piastri said in a video posted to social media.

“They’ve done the hair incredibly well, I would say, it’s pretty representative of me.

“Yeah, I’d say that’s a pretty good figurine of me, so I think it’s very cool, and I’m going to be keeping one on my bedside table from now on, because it’s not every day you get your own Lego figurine.”

The launch continues Lego’s growing presence in Formula 1, which started with a multi-year deal in 2025.

Earlier this year Ferrari and Lego released helmet replica sets based on the designs of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, with both models also featuring driver minifigures.

A variety of other sets have also been launched, including replica models of both current and historic F1 cars.

The McLaren sets are available now through Lego stores worldwide and the McLaren Racing Store.

The sets retail for $149.99 AUD each.
