The full consequences of pre-season contract disputes involving V8 Supercars stars Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen are both yet to be known as legal proceedings continue.
Recent court filings revealed that Erebus Motorsport has taken Federal Court action against Van Gisbergen following his defection to Tekno Autosports for 2013.
The move to Tekno came after the New Zealander cited “personal reasons” in order to be released from a fresh three-year contract with the formerly Stone Brothers Racing outfit that was to start this year.
Although unwilling to comment on the matter, Van Gisbergen has launched a cross-claim against Stone Brothers Racing.
The Court has set October 31, November 6 and December 18 as deadlines for a variety of evidence to be lodged by the parties prior to a final hearing.
Whincup, meanwhile, found himself under legal action pre-season from personal sponsor Monster Energy following Triple Eight’s new title sponsorship deal with energy drink rival Red Bull.
While the action against Whincup was eventually settled out of court on the eve of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix March, the driver is now suing his former management International Quarterback over the situation.
Whincup, who was forced to pay Monster $200,000 for ending the personal sponsorship, is seeking $419,000 in damages from the management firm.
International Quarterback has filed a counter-claim against Whincup over deals negotiated outside of its control.
