Ferrari is urging fans to rally behind Michael Schumacher in a special tribute outside Grenoble hospital to mark the Formula One superstar’s 45th birthday today.
The seven-times world champion remains in a stable but critical condition in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a fall while skiing at the Meribel resort in France last weekend.
While Schumacher remains in an induced coma, the Ferrari F1 squad with whom the driver won five of his titles, are asking fans and car clubs to take part in a silent vigil in Grenoble as a mark of respect.
A message on the team’s official Facebook page said: “In these difficult days and on the occasion of his birthday the Scuderia Ferrari Clubs want to show their support for Michael Schumacher, organising a silent and respectful event all in Red at the Grenoble University Hospital Centre.”
No further updates on the German’s condition were released overnight.
Doctors have previously stated they would only hold a press conference if there was a change in the champion grand prix driver’s condition.
The Schumacher family has also released a statement on the driver’s official website expressing their gratitude in response to all the messages of support they have received from well wishers.
“Following Michael’s skiing accident, we would like to thank the people from all around the world who have expressed their sympathy and sent their best wishes for his recovery.
“They are giving us great support.
“We all know he is a fighter and will not give up. Thank you.”
