Fiore to complete Super2 test with Eggleston Motorsport

Dean Fiore is set to take part in a test session with Eggleston Motorsport in the hopes he can stitch together a deal to keep him on the grid for the 2019 Dunlop Super2 Series.

Fiore last year raced with Matt White Motorsport and, speaking before Christmas, hoped to lock away his 2019 plans before the new year.

However, those plans hit the skids, leaving the Western Australian without a full-time racing program in 2019.

“There’s been some really big changes in management in a couple of the companies who were pivotal in piecing the whole program together,” Fiore told Speedcafe.com.

“There’s still an awful lot of interest, it’s just the timing’s probably not ideal for this year, so we thought it was just best to cool it for a season and then potentially try and put something together for 2020.

“Matt White obviously had a deadline, and I couldn’t hit that, and that was my intention, because he’s obviously trying to run a business so I said no.

“And then some dialogue sort of started with Eggleston Motorsport, and I’m going to test with them tomorrow.”

The 35-year-old will fly from Perth to Melbourne ahead of climbing into an Eggleston run Holden Commodore VF at Winton on Wednesday.

“At this point there’s sort of nothing locked in, it’s just we’re going to test just in case I can get something together for Adelaide, then at least I’ve driven the car,” he explained

“I love it and I want to do it, but it’s not critical to my year.

“I’ve got an awful lot that I need to focus on in the property world back here in Perth, but obviously love it and also bodes well with an endurance drive.

“Same sort of theory moving forward in terms of trying to keep yourself in a seat so when you do hop in that’d be great – which is even more critical than it ever has been because you start with Bathurst this year.”

Fiore hopes that by putting a deal together for the opening two rounds may lead to opportunities that enable him to see out the season.

“I’m working hard on trying to piece something together for Adelaide, because the next round’s Perth – there’s only two rounds in the first six months of the calendar year” he continued.

“If you can sort of take baby steps and piece the first two together, and potentially build some momentum that way, then it might be possible.”

Entries for the Adelaide round close later this week, with Speedcafe.com understanding Super2 entries are slightly down on what has been seen at the opening round in recent seasons.

Should Fiore be able to lock away a deal in time it would see him join at least one other Eggleston Motorsport entry, piloted by Will Brown.

Eggleston last year ran four cars, and supported a fifth in Brenton Grove, though he has since moved into the Triple Eight fold.

Dom Storey is not expected to continue while Nathan Morcom has confirmed to Speedcafe.com that he won’t be racing in 2019.

Fiore raced alongside Marc Cini and Lee Holdsworth at the Bathurst 12 Hour, the trio taking third in the Pro-Am division of Class A aboard an Audi R8 LMS GT3.
