Formula Ford driver gets first full V8 Supercars test

Formula Ford ace Garry Jacobson has received his first full V8 Supercars test.

The Sonic Motor Racing Services driver, currently third in the Australian Formula Ford title, drove Matthew White Motorsport’s Ford falcon BF at Winton Motor Raceway recently, completing half a day of track time.

While it was his first full test, it was not his first drive of a V8, having sampled 10 laps in a Sonic-prepared Ford late last year.

Now in his second full year of Formula Ford, Jacobson says he is looking towards the next phase of his career, which could include the Development Series, budget permitting.

“Matthew White gave me an opportunity to have a drive of Luke Youlden’s car, and it was very good,” Jacobson told Speedcafe.com.

“I went out and I think I showed some good pace. I was able to do three to four sessions and I was quite happy with it. Everyone around at the day seemed pretty pleased.

“The test was just a chance to get in the car and gain some knowledge about how these cars feel.

“Whether I may or may not get the opportunity in the future all depends on dollars, but we’ll see how this go. I’ll have to be patient.

“At the moment, my focus is on the Formula Ford championship. I’m still in contention and I was to push as hard as I can until the end of the year.”

Jacobson sits third in the Australian Formula Ford Championship, sitting 69 points adrift of title leader Jack LeBrocq. Mathew Hart sits second, 27 points behind LeBrocq.
