Mark Winterbottom says that his brand-new Ford Performance Racing Ford Falcon FG is fast, but very different, to the cars he has raced in the past.
The Orrcon Steel FPR driver is debuting a new Falcon chassis this weekend, and finished yesterday’s practice session in third place.
‘Frosty’ told Speedcafe.com.au that the car is significantly different to his past machines.
“It’s a lot different – both driving wise and set-up wise,” he said.
“It’s a little bit different to drive and took me some time to get my head around that. The car reacts different, and we’ll build up for other rounds, but so far so good.
“It was a really productive session. We improved the car in the areas that we needed to. We started off chasing some oversteer problems, but once we sorted that out, the new car was really good. We’ll work on it for qualifying and get it a bit better again, but it was a pretty good day.”
Winterbottom said that the Yas Marina Circuit has “a bit of everything.”
“It’s a great circuit. It’s a good track, but it’s pretty hard – there’s a lot of corners,” he said.
“The difference between the quickest and the slowest will be quite a lot. You only need to make the car a little bit better to get a big gain. It’s got good high speed braking. It’s got a bit of everything, and tonight’s race under lights is going to be pretty cool.”
