Robby Gordon will carry the livery used by Matt Mingay in the Stadium Super Trucks support races at Townsville in support of the injured Gold Coast stuntman.
Gordon, the Stadium Super Trucks owner/driver, visited Mingay in the Gold Coast University hospital as he flew in from the US on his way to the Castrol Edge Townsville 400 meeting.
Speaking publicly for the first time since Mingay suffered horrific facial injuries in a sickening crash in the second trucks race in Detroit early last month, Gordon said he will run in the action athlete’s Hot Wheels livery in the four Townsville races.
“Stadium Super Trucks (SST) Australia and I love having Matt and his Hot Wheels team as a big part of the SST events,” Gordon said.
“He is a true showman and one hell of a competitor.
“In conjunction with his sponsors we decided the best way we could all show our support for Matt and his family during this difficult time is to run Matt’s truck this weekend in Townsville and I’ll try to take it to victory lane for them.”
Mingay continues to make strong progress in his recovery from life threatening injuries.
Visits from Gordon and many friends and his family have boosted the world renowned stunt star’s spirits.
A GoFundMe donation platform established by friend and fellow SST driver Bill Hynes has raised more than $72,000 .
“Matt’s a great guy and I hate to see him and his family have to go through what he has in the last month,” Hynes said.
“It’s a long road and I know how much he is loved by his fans. The GoFundMe page is a great way for them to offer their support and say get well soon mate.
