How to stay up to speed with motorsport news without Facebook

Speedcafe.com speaking with three-time Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin last year

As you have no doubt noticed, articles from any Australian news website including Speedcafe.com are no longer appearing on Facebook feeds.

It’s all part of the argy-bargy between Facebook and the Australian Government regarding proposed media bargaining laws that would necessitate social media giants paying news outlets for use of their content.

We won’t get into the nitty gritty of that whole situation – we know you’re probably sick of hearing about it already – but what we will do is tell you how to stay in touch with all the latest and greatest happenings in Australian and international motorsport.

No matter what course of action Facebook or the Australian Government take on their current stoush, Speedcafe.com is committed to continuing its extensive, leading coverage on categories from Supercars and TCR to Formula 1 and MotoGP.

Without having the ability to access stories via Facebook, of course you can venture to our home page any time to read a regular stream of fresh content.

But there are ways to be nudged when there’s a story you need to know about, too, per the below options.

NEWSLETTER

Speedcafe.com keeps subscribers up to speed with a newsletter emailed directly to you, containing all of the biggest stories at the time.

These will ordinarily be sent a couple of times a day. If there’s a headline that takes your fancy, you can click straight through to read more.

Sign up for Speedcafe.com’s newsletter here.

MESSENGER NOTIFICATIONS

Pending any changes yet to take place, Speedcafe.com still has the ability to send stories direct to you on Facebook Messenger via our Chatbot service.

Select which category or categories you want to stay in the loop on and relevant stories will automatically be sent to your inbox – as will any major breaking news.

Sign up for messenger notifications here.

BROWSER NOTIFICATIONS

Be notified when any breaking news surfaces with an alert notification to your internet browser.

Click ‘allow’ on the alert bell that pops up in the bottom-right corner of your screen to sign up for browser notifications.

OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

We will continue to have stories frequently posted to our Instagram and Twitter channels as per usual.

WATCH THIS SPACE

We have some exciting news to share soon, which will take the Speedcafe.com experience to yet another level. Stay tuned…

A NOTE FROM THE OWNER, BRETT “CRUSHER” MURRAY

This is a hell of a fight at the top end of town which is affecting an enormous amount of businesses of all shapes and sizes as a result.

Speedcafe.com has always prided itself on quality journalism and over the years we have proudly managed to provide many opportunities for young talent wanting to make a career in the industry.

We have managed to find a way to achieve that with a unique business model during the last 12 years, which is attractive to our Platinum Partner group and palatable to our readership and fanbase.

We did not need deals brokered for us on our behalf by the Federal Government to stay afloat.

We have used all the tools available to increase our readership numbers, including Facebook, and we were comfortable with that relationship.

We would obviously prefer the Facebook action not to have taken place, but that is out of our hands and we need to continue to encourage our readership to use the access points available, including signing up for our daily newsletter, and to continue to visit our site directly to receive their motorsport news first, fast and free.

It is our commitment to the readership through accurate, quality, independent journalism that has helped us become the world’s #1 independent motorsport news site.

While Speedcafe.com is in a solid position because of the communication structures we have invested in over the last decade and the loyalty of our readership, we hope a common sense outcome to this situation is achieved that protects so many vital small- to medium-sized businesses, that employ so many Australians.
