The Holden Racing Team has presented a cheque for $11,995 to the RSL today following the squad’s ANZAC Appeal efforts earlier in the season.
The two HRT Commodores sported an ANZAC livery at Pukekohe in April for the second consecutive year.
The corresponding ANZAC race suits of drivers Garth Tander and James Courtney were subsequently auctioned to raise money, in addition to a 2013 bonnet.
Courtney then added a further $1,000 to the tally via his Armor All Pole Award from Race 11.
Tander presented the cheque to RSL representatives, who will share the money with New Zealand’s equivalent, the RSA.
“It fills me with pride to be able to hand over this cheque on behalf of the Holden Racing Team to the RSL and RSA on Remembrance Day,” Tander said.
“Today is another special day when we observe one minute’s silence at 11am in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
“While we didn’t win on ANZAC weekend (at Pukekohe this year), we were able to make a real difference with our ANZAC Appeal fundraising and awareness campaign.”
After racing on ANZAC day for the first time this year, Pukekohe’s event has been moved to November for 2015.
The V8 Supercars Championship continues this weekend with the Fitness Plus 400 at Phillip Island.
