Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay is the third driver confirmed for the resumption of the Race of Champions event.

Booked for the Bushy Park circuit in Barbados from December 13-14, the event moves to a new home after the unique multi-discipline format was cancelled in Thailand last year owing to political unrest.

Featuring drivers from leading motorsport categories in head-to-head stadium rivalry, Hunter-Reay joins Lotus F1 driver Romain Grosjean and Le Mans superstar Tom Kristensen in the field.

It will be the second time Hunter-Reay has competed at the Race of Champions following his invitation to the event at the Rajamangala stadium in Bangkok in 2012, the year he won the IndyCar Series.

“My first ROC in Bangkok was an amazing experience, going head-to-head with some of the best drivers from every different motorsport discipline from around the world,” Hunter-Reay said.

The Andretti Autosports driver Hunter-Reay has combined his successful IndyCar career with wins in the former American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am.

“Experience really helps with the short amount of seat time in each of the different types of ROC race car.

“When it’s time to head to Barbados for the race weekend, I’ll be focused on winning. It’s an honor to represent America, IndyCar and the Indy 500 in such a prestigious event.”

Organisers plan to announce more drivers in the coming weeks.
