Brad Sweet fell just short of a miraculous podium after finishing fourth in the Firecracker 50-lapper at Valvoline Raceway.
After being sent to the rear of the field with 29 laps remaining, Sweet staged a slashing run to finish just out of the placings in an event won by Ian Madsen.
Brooke Tatnell and Kerry Madsen completed the podium.
The night was a case of what could have been for Sweet’s Ruhs Bros Motorsports team which put in a near perfect evening winning time trials, heat race and the pole shootout to start the A-Main from pole position.
The 50-lap Feature started with a tight battle between Sweet and Ian Madsen, which saw Madsen lead at the mandatory half-way stoppage.
Once teams had completed re-fuelling and changes to the car, Sweet restarted in second position, only to pull off the track after the car jumped out of gear in Turn 2, putting him to the rear of the field.
A determined Sweet then moved through the 24-car field to fourth place, nearly edging past Kerry Madsen for a podium place at the finishing line.
