A free COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be set up at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for locals this weekend.
It’s part of a partnership established between the historic motorsport venue and the Indiana Department of Health as the US continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.
Distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will take place between 08:00 and 22:00 this Friday to Sunday (local times), with locals aged 55 and above eligible to make an appointment.
“We’re a community-first organisation, and we’re extremely proud to assist with this important effort to keep Hoosiers (Indiana locals) safe and healthy,” said IMS president Douglas Boles.
“I encourage those who are eligible to sign up, and I’d like to thank our state’s leadership – most especially Governor Holcomb and Dr Box – for the opportunity to team up and pitch in.”
Added Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb, “Getting tens of thousands of vaccines in arms in a matter of days is a huge undertaking that requires incredible partnerships.
“We are incredibly grateful to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Notre Dame and Ivy Tech for their willingness to meet this challenge head on to help save Hoosier lives.”
The IMS will play host to the 105th edition of the prestigious Indy 500 on May 30 (local time).
