Russell Ingall quickest in wet second practice

Russell Ingall

Russell Ingall

Veteran Russell Ingall put V8 Supercars minnows Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport at the top of the time sheets in a wet second practice session at Winton.

Rain hit the circuit prior to the 20 minute session and, while the weather soon eased, the track remained wet for the duration.

Improving conditions late in the going ensured a flurry of fast times after the chequered flag fell.

Shane van Gisbergen was fastest as the time elapsed, before Jason Bright, James Courtney, Tim Slade and eventually Ingall shot to the top in quick succession.

Ingall appeared to revel in the conditions having spent most of the final 10 minutes at the top.

His final time of 1:33.68s proved nearly five seconds quicker than the first flying laps that were set while the circuit was at its wettest.

The session had been stopped at its halfway mark after a lock-up and subsequent off at Turn 3 for Fabian Coulthard.

Practice 1 pace-setter Will Davison, Pepsi Max FPR drivers Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert, and the Dick Johnson Racing Ford of Scott Pye all elected to skip the session.

Dry conditions are expected for the weekend’s qualifying and races.

A third 20 minute session will complete the V8 Supercars practice running late this afternoon.
