Multiple iRacing champion Madison Down is eyeing a possible motorsport career after an impressive racing debut in the Aussie Racing Cars championship.
The teenager secured a prize drive in the category’s final round at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend after winning Racecentre’s ‘Race to Reality’ sim racing competition.
The contest pitched racing simulation competitors against each other in a competition to secure a fully funded place on a real life grid in the Aussie Racing Cars season finale.
Down, who has won seven iRacing V8 Supercar titles, turned heads on his full motorsport debut by finishing ahead of several seasoned campaigners in a huge 39 car field.
The rookie finished three of the four races, recording a best finish of 17th position.
Having made a successful racing debut, Down is eager to make more appearances in the future and will work during the off season to land another drive.
“I will definitely see if there is anything I can do over the summer to get something organised and see if there are any opportunities to do some kind of racing”, Down told Speedcafe.com.
“Hopefully we can get something together as being on the pace on my debut wasn’t bad.
“I’ve always had the motivation to try and race properly. Its amazing being on the other side of the fence and actually be driving and racing on the streets.
“Hopefully now I’ve done it once another opportunity will arise and maybe I can get some backing. I love this series and I would race one of these cars in a heart beat.”
While his focus switches to more outings in 2014, Down admitted he thoroughly enjoyed his time on the other side of the fence.
“It’s been an amazing weekend.
“I’m really happy to get the opportunity to do it as this is something you dream of your whole life. From the sim racing world to reality is very different. It is a lot scarier on the first lap and it certainly grabs your attention.”
