Nissan Motorsport’s Garry Jacobson has clocked the fastest lap in the Additional Drivers Practice session at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint.

The 2016 Super2 Series winner set back-to-back fastest laps in the final run after a red flag period, his best in Rick Kelly’s #15 Castrol Nissan Altima a 1:09.6257s.

“That’s good; I didn’t really know (how fast I was),” said Jacobson.

“Obviously I’ve been given a set of tyres to do the job today that are not too bad; they’re not greens, but they’re not bad.

“(I’m) Just thankful that they gave me a set of tyres that I could work with and we can give Rick that information that he needs to know what the car’s going to feel like.”

Team-mate Dean Fiore had held first position thanks to a 1:09.8098s set just after halfway through the 30-minute hit-out in Michael Caruso’s #23 Drive Nissan Altima.

Steven Richards ended up third-fastest having held sway after the first runs in Craig Lowndes’ #888 Autobarn ZB Commodore.

Tony D’Alberto drove each of the Shell V-Power Racing entries, setting a lap which put Fabian Coulthard’s #12 FGX Falcon in fourth position.

D’Alberto ran off at Turn 3 immediately after the lap in question and would switch to Scott McLaughlin’s Falcon in the absence of Alexandre Premat, putting Car #17 sixth on the timesheets.

Splitting the DJR Team Penske cars was Steve Owen in Richie Stanaway’s #56 Rabble.Club FGX Falcon.

Paul Dumbrell was just the second of the Commodores in seventh position in Jamie Whincup’s #1 Red Bull HRT ZB, from Jonathon Webb in another Triple Eight-built machine (#19 Tekno Autosports ZB Commodore).

Rounding out the top 10 were Macauley Jones (#8 Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore) and last year’s Bathurst 1000 winners Luke Youlden and Erebus Motorsport (#9 Penrite ZB Commodore).

Russell Ingall finished 14th in Shane van Gisbergen’s #97 Red Bull HRT ZB Commodore, which will be co-driven by absent Porsche driver Earl Bamber in the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The session saw a red flag with just over eight minutes remaining when wildcard entrant Kurt Kostecki slowed and pulled off the circuit on the run off at Turn 3.

The problem for the #42 VF Commodore was a fuel pressure problem, according to Kostecki Brothers Racing.

Kostecki ended up 25th of the 26 cars which took to the circuit as the #34 Wilson Security ZB Commodore stayed in pit lane with Garry Rogers Motorsport co-driver Richard Muscat racing in Asia this weekend.

Practice 1 (45 minutes) starts at 1200 local time/AEST.
